
Sophie is a Cinematographer, currently based in Berlin.
At the age of 18 years, she moved on her own from Germany to India (Mumbai). Having lived and worked in such diverse cultural environments continues to deeply inspire her work.
With her camera, she aims to dive deeply into different realities, making them emotionally accessible to the audience: Visual storytelling which looks beyond the obvious, entertains and forms connections.
Sophie has worked for multiple national and international film productions in both fiction and documentary. Among others, she has shot for Amazon Prime, ZDF and ARD as a DoP. Her 16mm film Forged in Flames was published on Nowness and she has wrapped three 52min documentaries for Arte. Currently she is shooting a cinema feature documentary. In 2026 she was awarded the Special Mention Female Gaze CineOne & sPOTTlight Nationaler Preis für Bildgestalter*innen” for Halima – eine Anleitung zum Starksein.
She holds a BA in Anthropology / Sociology from Saint Xavier’s College, Mumbai. As well as a Cinematography degree from the reputed Film-University Konrad Wolf Babelsberg, Germany.
